The Ten Kings and the Beast

From The Apocalypse - Letter by Letter: A Literary Analysis of the Book of Revelation

That the Ten Kings GIVE their kingdom to the Beast is impressive testimony as to how extraordinary a person the Beast will be, even before he becomes the Antichrist; and that Satan also gives his own power and throne and great authority to him implies not only the Beast's qualification of malice, but also Satan's, toward Christ and his Church: for Satan so hates them, that he is willing to put himself at the beck and call of a mere man, an inversion of the scale of being comparable to a man's subserving a slug. Thus, by having a visible head, can Satan deceive a greater number of souls to annihilation.

Contrary to the opinion asserted about twenty-five years ago in The Late Great Planet Earth, by Hal Lindsay, the Ten Kings will not have their confederation in Europe, but in southwest Asia, the region that includes the lands around the Black Sea and the Caspian, and those of Iran, Oman, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia; this region holds 70% of the world's known oil reserves and is predominantly Islamic. That the Confederation of the Ten Kings will not arise in Europe is shown by one salient fact: the Great Harlot will have dominion over "the earth" until the Beast annexes it to his "many waters," and, thereafter, the False Prophet will be the subordinate ruler of it, not the Ten Kings.

Verse 12 states that the Ten Kings...

"...did not yet receive a kingdom, but authority as kings for one hour they will receive together with the beast."

The angel is referring to the global empire that will be given to the Beast when he begins ascending from the abyss, also. Since the historical count of the seven evil empires is both literal and exact, I suspect that the count of the Ten Kings, who are contemporaries of the Beast, will also be literal and exact. This does not mean the number "ten" is not symbolical here; it is a round or rough number connoting that the global empire will not be total, but nearly so.
Chapter 12 corroborates this view in verse 14,

But the woman was given the two wings of/from the eagle the great one, so that she could fly unto the wilderness, to her place where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time.

It should be obvious to all, that the "wilderness," in her case, will not be the symbolical "wilderness" where John was taken "in spirit" to see the Great Harlot and the Beast; if it were, then, she would be jumping from the frying pan into the fire.
